Fashion Magazines - Friend Or Foe?
Source: isnare.com
Ilove clothes. For me, clothing is a form of self-expression just like paint on a canvas is a form of expression for an artist. So, over the years I've been known to scour the pages, face painting and design , of fashion magazines for ideas. Sometimes I buy the magazines in the store, other times I subscribe to them for a year or more. Often times, when I flip through the pages, I get inspiration to combine colors, textures or styles in a way I hadn't thought of in the past.
I've known for years that fashion magazines are filled with unrealistic, computer-enhanced images. I know that many models have eating disorders and drug problems and I know that many young women aspire to look like models and therefore, face painting and design , become victims of eating disorders, compulsive dieting, body dissatisfaction, drug use, smoking and more. I know because I was one of those girls.
But I figured since I "know better" now, since I'm smart enough to see beneath the surface, that there's no harm in looking at the magazine for fashion ideas, face painting and design , . It was only this past week, after the mailperson delivered a 500 page copy of one of my favorite fashion magazines that it all began to hit me. I sat at the table eating cereal and flipping through the pages one at a time.
I oogled a $500 purse and a $200 pair of shoes. I saw pictures of $1,000 dollar watches. Page after page was permeated with items that would break my bank if I were to purchase them. I realized that I was literally paying money out of my pocket to be advertised to. I was paying for a 500 page manual which might as well have been titled: 500 pages of things you will never be, do or have.
I realized I was paying to look at and read lies. Even though I "know better", face painting and design , on a conscious level, there was still a little girl part of me that wanted "that purse", "those shoes" and "that watch," even if they were all incredibly overpriced and sure to wreak havoc on my financial future and my self-esteem.
On this particular day, looking at the fashion magazine wasn't enjoyable, it was infuriating., face painting and design , I suppose this fury has been working it's way out over the, face painting and design , past few months. There was the time when I saw the picture, face painting and design , of Madonna in a Versace ad and it hit me: she doesn't have a wrinkle or a smile line or crow's feet. Not one sign of being a mother of two, over 40 and a woman with an incredibly demanding, face painting and design , career that spanned several decades. I thought to myself, "that's impossible." It wasn't a jealous or envious thought, I meant it very literally. It is impossible. Computer enhancement and heavy duty make-up is the only logical explanation for the flawless face I saw.
I decided to put my emotions and judgments in check and get objective about what I saw. I performed an unofficial research project and scanned the pages of this 500 page magazine to get an accurate account of what I had been absorbing mindlessly month after month and year after, face painting and design , year. Here's what I learned: of the 500 pages, 300 were full-page ads. 172 pages were ads that pretended to be fashion advice, party advice and editorial content. Let's get real, when the fashion advice includes the name, phone number and website of the store and the price of the item, it truly is an ad. About 30 pages of the magazine were not technically ads but they were things like: "This star likes this" or, "This star does that." Three of the pages, face painting and design , were public service ads (I believe this is a requirement). So, there you have it, my 500 page contained 472 ads and approximately 30 pages of "content." And I'm the sucker who sent the check in to cover the yearly subscription fee.
Now after this informal research project, I was beginning to get a little steamed up. Then, my friend Cindy e-mails me a link to the Dove website (campaignforrealbeauty.com) I go there and watch a 30-second video that shows a sped up version of all that goes into your typical fashion photo shoot. The 30-second video clip encapsulates the, face painting and design , hours of time spent on hair, make-up, lighting, professional photography techniques and computer enhancement that takes place before an ad is published or broadcast. When I say the magazine ads are unrealistic and unattainable, I mean it. Because not even the model looks like the model!
So, I've made a decision. I am boycotting all fashion magazines. I will never purchase another one again. I will not spend my money on lies and images that lead to self-hatred, deadly behaviors and oppression for women. I, face painting and design , know that money is power and I refuse to spend my money on harmful lies that destroy the lives of many women.
I know that my few dollars will not be a big loss to the mega-rich publishing industry but I think it's important for all women to realize that in a very real way we do not have to buy the hype. I mean that in two ways. We do not have to buy the magazines with our money and, face painting and design , we don't have to buy the lies that reside within their pages. We can also decide to support designers and manufacturers that promote positive images for women. We can choose to withhold our dollars from companies that exploit women whether it's the model or the sweat shop worker that sews the clothing.
If a full boycott of fashion magazines is not for you, you always have the power to write advertisers when you see images that are harmful or ridiculous. These letters do make a difference.
Now, as far as my fashion inspiration, I decided that if my clothes truly are to be a form of self-expression then I will decide for myself what textures, colors and styles I want to combine. I'm a grown woman living in a free country. I don't need a magazine to tell me how I should dress.

Design Your Kitchen For Weight Loss
Source: ezinearticles.com
If you need to lose weight and are thinking of upgrading your kitchen as well as your body then here are a few tips to kill two birds with one stone. You see environment is a huge help when it comes to weight loss and you may as well have the best environment you possibly can when you are remodeling your kitchen (or even just giving it a bit of a face-lift).
1, face painting design , . Big Fridge and Freezer
This is not so that you can stuff your appliances full of fattening goodies but so that you can put anything away that you don't need to eat now rather than "wasting it". Goodness knows why we think it is wasting food to put it in the trash and we would rather waste our waistlines - but there it is. A big fridge and freezer (and an ample supple of storage containers) will make you feel better. You can put it away for later rather, face painting design , than throwing it out. The food never looks so appealing when it is cold and congealed and you can happily throw it out before it becomes a science project.
Use your fridge and freezer too for storing plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and home cooked meals that you prepare ahead so that you always have something nourishing and low calorie to come home to without having to shop (and be tempted by the food in the store) every day.
2. Ample Cabinets
Build as many cabinets as you need to be able to put everything out of sight. You don't want to make it easy to pop in a slice of toast, run up a batch of fattening dessert in your ice cream maker or to whip up a cake with your huge stand mixer. Make sure that making those kinds of comfort foods is an effort so that you only eat, face painting design , them on special occasions. It will save you a ton of calories. If your kitchen is too small for a lot of cabinets, face painting design , consider getting rid of some of the cooking items which don't do you any good. A deep fat fryer and waffle maker really have no place in your kitchen if you want to lose weight and stay slim.
3. High Cabinets
Have your wall cabinets made quite high so that you have to get a step stool out to reach the top shelves. That is where you can stash any cakes and cookies etc that you keep in your home "for guests". Make it, face painting design , very awkward just to have a piece of chocolate, face painting design , or cookie with a cup of coffee so that you do that less and less. Of course, it's better not to buy these kinds of products at all but if you feel, face painting design , you really can't do that then high shelves are just perfect to help break bad habits.
4. Keep Kitchen Counters Clear
Don't leave food, face painting design , lying around. If you see it, it will trigger off hunger pangs which were not there 10 seconds before you saw the food. Design your kitchen so that there is a place for everything and you can't immediately, face painting, face painting design , design , see food when you come in the door tired and hungry.
5. Clean and Appealing
Aim for a clean and attractive kitchen that makes you want to spend time there. This helps make sure you are happy to cook a few simple foods at home rather than sending out for pizza. It helps you feel like experimenting with different nourishing foods rather than opening a packet. A kitchen remodeling is an idea time to get happier with your kitchen but a lick of paint and a good clean and decluttering can work wonders too.
To get happy with your kitchen think about the whole design not just the major areas like cabinets and appliances. Simple touches like great kitchen curtains, chair cushions and wall color can make a huge difference and of course you have lots of choices with these items. If You Want to Lose Weight You Need to Relax
Source: ezinearticles.com
A lifestyle full of responsibilities sometimes gets out of hand. You go through stages when there's always something more pressing than taking care of yourself.
We women are multi tasking maniacs. It seems that sometimes we just can't be still. Whatever free time we might have, we spend it
• chasing after the kids, • coping with the pets, • performing most of the housekeeping chores, • overseeing the family budget, • filling the freezer with food and • buying, washing, mending clothing -
- and whatever time is left is our own! Great.
When is the last time that you were able to sit down and read a book? What about watching a TV programme without being disturbed by the kids, the family pet, the neighbours, a family member, a friend or the phone?
Long time - can you even remember it?
Many of us feel that, when we have children we virtually place our, childrens face painting , lives on hold until they are grown up and able to take care of themselves, childrens face painting , . (Yeah, right - believe me that's just a dream.)
I remember when my kids were small, just getting up and out of the house was a major feat in organization.
By the time one of them was washed, dressed, fed and in the buggy, the other has chocolate smeared down the once clean T shirt and needed to be changed. Now all this has to be done at lightening speed, childrens face painting , because, if you took too long you were still be trailing round the shops for the groceries, when the first little treasure woke up and demanded to be fed.
As a relatively new mom I remember stepping out of the house with this whirlwind just, childrens face painting , behind me and thinking, "Did I was my face this morning?"
Our lives on hold - you bet.
If this sounds all too familiar, you really MUST find some alone time - some time to relax. You might mistakenly think that all this rushing around would help you to lose weight.
Wrong.
Not enough 'relaxing time' often creates a situation for weight gain.
Why? Well, something has to give and it's usually the way we feed ourselves. We 'pick', childrens, childrens face painting , face painting , while we feed the kids or even worse eat what they have left. Then we're too tired to make ourselves a proper meal, so we eat convenience food and slump on the sofa. Sounds familiar?
That's the perfect recipe for weight gain.
Taking time out for ourselves is essential; it keeps us focused - and sane!
Even if you must hire a sitter for the evening, or for an afternoon, then do that! And don't feel guilty (that's the hard one) about relaxing because you certainly NEED that time.
Tina's 10 Top Tips for Relaxation.
1. A long lingering bath, childrens face painting , full of delicious smelling bubbles. 2. Cup of tea/coffee, comfy chair and your favourite novel. (Phone of the hook.) 3. Put on some great music, stretch out on the sofa and close your eyes. 4. Retail therapy. 5. Lunch with a friend - in or out, it doesn't matter; just time to gossip. 6. Plan your dream holiday. 7. Treat yourself to a new, childrens face painting , hairdo, body massage or get your nails done. 8. Remember that hobby? I love to, childrens face painting , draw or paint, but whatever turns YOU on, childrens face painting , - indulge yourself for the afternoon. 9. Prepare a nice romantic meal for two - and send the kids to granny's for the night. 10. Try some exercise - what! - yes, exercise, you'll be amazed how relaxed it makes you feel.
A nice relaxed mom enjoys life more, makes the kids better behaved; and has much more chance of keeping to her weight loss programme, than a frazzles wreck with an unfounded guilty conscience.
